See Stars in Marsala, Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year

Well, 2015 certainly is going to have some flavor to it!Pantone just announced that Marsala, a rich reddish brown hue, is next year’s must-have color. “It’s a color that’s equally as versatile on the body, in cosmetics or in the home, and that really makes it universal,” says Pantone Color Institute’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman.
A warming blend of red and brown with pink and caramel undertones, Marsala has the same depth and complexity as the Sicilian cooking vino of the same name. “It is such a deliciously warm shade, you can almost taste it just by looking at it,” Eiseman, says. “It’s often associated with elegance and sophistication, yet has down-to-earth roots so it’s easy to embrace.” And as it turns out, stars and designers—including Blake Lively (pictured above, in Gucci), Christopher Kane, Olivia Palermo (inNina Ricci), and Jenny Packham—have already fallen for it. Stylist Kate Young, who works with Emilia Clarke, Rachel Weisz, andMichelle Williams, is also a fan: “It’s a great anecdote to all the neons we’ve been seeing,” she says. So how can you wear it? Pair it with a neutral tone, like navy or black, or try a complementary color, like mustard. Another way to indulge: Swipe it on your lips. “This color flatters the mouth’s natural pigments, so it works for everyone,” says beauty guruBobbi Brown.
If you’re not sure the hue is for you, Eiseman has a solution. “The best way to get accustomed to a color is to use it in a print with other colors you really really love,” she suggests. “So if you’re just trying to introduce it to yourself, do it with small accents that are less expensive.”
